Sew Technology QUALITY RESTORATION IS OUR TRADEMARK

How to Pack Your Machine

If you are sending your machine to us for restoration, here are our guidelines.

Most importantly you and your machine is for the machine to arrive safely. Improper packing will only result in damage and could destroy your machine.

1) Bubble wrap the pedal and secure it in the throat of the machine with other packing material. Do not tape the pedal to the machine, as this can damage the paint and decals

2) Wrap the entire machine in two layers of large cell bubble wrap

3) Place the machine inside a sturdy box with a minimum of 2” of foam peanuts around every side of the machine

4) If your machine has a open bottom, meaning the mechanicals are clearly visible under the machine. We recommend a 2” piece of rigid foam taped to bottom of machine. This is extremely important with the Pfaff and heavier machines

5) Ship the machine via either USPS or UPS. Fedex will work if you use additional insurance. Fedex allows you to declare full value, but only insures the first $100. USPS and UPS insures for full value.

Service versus Restoration

We acquire machines through our shop all the time that are “SERVICED” by others and apparently there is quite a range in level of standards. Make sure that the machine you buy not only looks good but is actually restored to provide you with years of trouble free sewing. You will know when you open one of our machines to look at the inside how clean it is. All the old residual grease and gook have been removed and all functions operate smoothly. If our machine does not function properly it does not go out the door. We take pride in our machines and service them to the highest standards.

Everything in this machine was so badly everything but the counter weight was discarded

Below are 2 bushings. The top one is new, the bottom one came out of a running machine. So as you can see just because it is running right now does not mean it will be running for much longer.

There are many incorrect bushings installed. Look at the contact area in the picture below and see that the face is chipped away. It is not the correct bushing for this machine

Many rubber and organic materials on these machines can rot and decay. We replace all rubber and organic materials to assure you a quality machine.

Most high use springs such as take up spring are subject to wear and abuse. The one on the left is from a machine we received, the one on the right is new. We replace all high use springs.

Here is a broken bobbin winder and a new one. The broken one worked just enough to make you think everything was okay and clearly it is not.

All parts are soaked in ultrasonic cleaners to remove dirt and contaminants not clearly seen.

We inspect and replace wiring. Just because it looks good, does not mean it is. This wiring looks fine.

In reality it is clearly broken and was replaced.

We chemically test metals for their integrity. Chemical testing shows if there are micro fractures along the structure of the metal

A small fracture can cause a major failure later.

Every part of the machine is thoroughly cleaned and inspected even the smallest of parts and many are done by hand. Here is the average mountain of q-tips used on one machine to remove all debris.

When we are done restoring a machine it is thoroughly cleaned and re-lubricated so that it works as smoothly as when it came off the manufacturing line

Care Tips

CARE FOR YOUR MACHINE
If your machine has set out in the cold allow it to warm to room temperature for several hours before using…this allows oils and fluids to reach room temperature

Remember your machine is a mechanical device…periodically remove covers and dust out bits of thread and dirt

Your machine should be oiled on a regular basis, as recommended by the manufacturer…just a drop of oil at each point will do

Use high quality sewing machine oil…OTHER OILS WILL DAMAGE THE MACHINE

Your machine does not like to sit unused…periodically use all the features on your machine…this assures movement and lubrication of all moving parts

Thanks for your purchase
Your machine has been lovingly restored and can be cherished for generations.
